preparation | 3.96 g2-(4-bromophenyl)-1,1, 2-triphenylethylene was added to the reaction flask, nitrogen was aspirated three times, and 50ml of tetrahydrofuran was added under a nitrogen atmosphere. 4.25ml of 2.5m n-butyl lithium were injected slowly in a liquid nitrogen/acetone bath at -78 °c. After one hour of activation, dry ice was added and reacted at room temperature until no more gas was evolved and the reaction was terminated by the addition of dilute hydrochloric acid. After extraction with ethyl acetate, the organic phase was collected, concentrated in vacuo and passed through a silica gel column with an n-hexane/ethyl acetate gradient to give the product 4-(1,2, 2-tristyryl) benzoic acid as an off-white solid. |
