Its hydrochloride ([58-33-3]) is white or almost white powder or particles with a melting point of 230-232 ℃ (partial decomposition). Easily soluble in water, soluble in ethanol or chloroform, almost insoluble in acetone or ether. Almost odorless, bitter, turning blue in the air over time. |

异丙嗪溶液,100PPM - Production method
Add phenthidine and base to toluene, and heat and reflux for 1h. Slightly cold, add 2-chloro-1-dimethylaminopropane toluene solution, reflux with water for 10-12h. Cold to below 50 ℃, the reaction liquid is filtered, the filter residue is washed with a small amount of acetone and water, the washing filtrate is combined, standing, toluene layer is separated, toluene is recovered by distillation under reduced pressure, and 220-260 ℃(1.33-2.66kPa) fraction is collected to obtain promethazine (base). The promethazine base is added to acetone, and dry hydrogen chloride gas is introduced at about 50 ℃ for salt formation reaction to generate promethazine hydrochloride.
