1,4-Diazidobutane - Introduction
1,4-diazidobutane is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H8N6. It is a colorless to yellowish liquid with explosive properties. It has a density of 1.22g/cm³ and a boiling point of 155-160°C.
1,4-diazidobutane is commonly used in the manufacture of civil explosives and blasting supplies. Because of its highly explosive nature, it is also used as a detonator, propelling agent and component of explosive devices.
The method for preparing 1,4-diazidobutane is through the reaction of malonyl chloride and sodium azide. First, malonyl chloride is dissolved in an organic solvent, and then a sodium azide solution is gradually added dropwise while maintaining the reaction temperature below room temperature. After the reaction was carried out, the product was purified to give 1,4-diazidobutane.
Due to its highly explosive nature, strict safety precautions are required when using 1,4-diazidobutane. It is very sensitive to fire sources, heat sources and rubbing, and is prone to explosion. Direct contact with skin and eyes should be avoided during use. When exposed to the compound, the affected area should be rinsed with plenty of water immediately. It is recommended to fully understand and master the relevant safe operation and disposal requirements before use, and to follow appropriate laboratory safety regulations.
