MeI(17.0g,120 mmol) was added to the suspension of N-methyl thiourea (100 mmol) in anhydrous EtOH(100 mL), and thiourea was dissolved exothermically, indicating that the reaction was ongoing. After monitoring the completion of the reaction by TLC (silica gel) for 12 hours, the volatile components in the mixture were removed by vacuum evaporation, and the residue was vacuum dried at 40°C for 12 hours to obtain 1, 2-dimethyl-2-isothiourea hydroiodate.
