Application

3, 7-dibromo-1, 5-naphthyridine is a pharmaceutical intermediate, which can be prepared from 1, 5-naphthyridine was obtained by bromination of the elemental Bromo. 3, 7-dibromo-1, 5-naphthyridine can be used to prepare an electron transport material.

preparation

1, 5-naphthyridine (30.80g,236.7mmol) and sodium acetate (38.83g,473.3mmol) was dissolved in acetic acid (236.7mL) and heated to 60 °c. A solution of bromine (25.6mL,496.9mmol) in acetic acid (35mL) was added dropwise over 30 min. The solution was stirred at 60 °c for 22 hours. The reaction was cooled to ambient temperature, then diluted with water (250ml) and basified with 4N NaOH(aq.) (300ml), where after addition of base, a beige precipitate formed. The precipitate was collected by filtration, followed by washing with water, MeOH and acetone. The remaining solid (54.7g) was recrystallized from chloroform (1.36L) to give the title compound as a pure cream solid (30g,44%).
