3. react 2-cyano -4-methoxybenzyl alcohol with cuprous chloride and cuprous bromide to generate 2-chloro -4-methoxybenzyl alcohol.
4. Finally, react 2-chloro-4-methoxybenzyl alcohol with hydrobromic acid to generate bromide.
