1.2-amino -3,5-dimethyl pyrazine and dimethyl carbonate are reacted in an organic solvent to generate 3,5-dimethyl-pyrazole -4-carboxylic acid dimethyl ester.
2. Under acidic conditions, 3,5-dimethyl-pyrazole -4-carboxylic acid dimethyl ester is hydrolyzed to give 3,5-dimethyl-pyrazole -4-carboxylic acid.
