Application

3-(methanesulfonyl) propionic acid is an organic intermediate that consists of 3-(methylthio) the propionic acid is oxidized and the oxidizing agent may be selected from hydrogen peroxide or potassium hydrogen persulfate.

preparation

Add 3-(methylthio) to a reaction flask containing acetic acid (2ml) and acetic anhydride (2ml) propionic acid (300mg,2.49mmol) and H2O2(1.5mL) were stirred at room temperature overnight. After completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give crude 3-(methylsulfonyl) propionic acid (300mg, white solid, yield: 79%). It was used directly in the next step without purification. LC-MS(ESI):m/Z 149.12[M-H].
