2. react 2-benzyl -2-acetone alcohol with bromoacetic acid to obtain 5-(benzyloxy)-6-bromopyridinol
3. Finally, 5-(benzyloxy)-6-bromopyridinol is converted into 5-(Benzyloxy)-5-pyridyl by acid-catalyzed dehydration reaction.
