5-AMINO-4-HYDROXY-1,3-BENZENEDISULFONIC ACID - Introduction
5-amino -4-hydroxy -1,3-benzene disulfonic acid, often referred to as ABTS, is a colorless crystalline powder. The following is a description of the nature, use, preparation and safety information of ABTS:
Nature:
-Appearance: colorless crystalline powder
-Solubility: Soluble in water and organic solvents (such as methanol, ethanol, etc.)
-Stability: stable at room temperature, but will decompose under high temperature and light conditions
Use:
-Chemical analysis: ABTS is commonly used to measure antioxidant activity as an artificial antioxidant
-Biological research: ABTS can be used as an enzyme substrate to determine enzyme activity
-Chemical catalysis: ABTS can be used as an oxidant catalyst
Preparation Method:
- ABTS is usually prepared by the reaction of aniline and phenol. Specific steps are as follows:
1. mix aniline and phenol in an equimolar ratio
2. Heat the reaction mixture in an appropriate solvent
3. The product of the reaction is ABTS
4. The product can be purified by crystallization and filtration
Safety Information:
- ABTS has a certain degree of irritation to the human body, and may cause irritation and redness when in contact with the skin and eyes. Therefore, appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn during operation to avoid direct contact
-When using, maintain good ventilation conditions and avoid inhaling dust or vapor
-should be stored in a dry, dark and ventilated place, away from combustibles and oxidants.
-Before using ABTS, it is recommended to read and comply with the safety data sheet (MSDS) provided by the supplier
