Overview ethylene glycol monoallyl ether is a colorless and transparent liquid with weak characteristic odor and miscibility with water, long-term exposure to air has a weak oxidation. Because the molecular formula contains hydroxyl and double bonds, it is a new type of environmentally friendly polymerization monomer and intermediate, because of its high boiling point, low odor, it is suitable as a modified intermediate for the synthesis of comonomers and silicones containing hydroxyl functional groups. Can replace allyl alcohol, excellent performance. Mainly used in the production of fluorocarbon resin, super absorbent resin, unsaturated polyester, light-Cured Coatings, water-soluble coatings, paint and plastic additives, polyurethane foam stabilizers, batteries and chromium plating solid polymer electrolyte. At present, there are two synthetic routes of ethylene glycol monoallyl ether: 1) etherification end-capping method. The hydroxyl group was etherified with allyl chloride and ethylene glycol under alkaline conditions, and then purified by distillation. This method will produce a large amount of inorganic salts, and the excess of allyl chloride is difficult to recover, easy to bring pollution to the environment. 2) polymerization method. Propylene alcohol and ethylene oxide under the basic catalyst for ring-opening polymerization and then distillation purification. The method is easy to produce by-products of polyethylene glycol and ethylene oxide polymerization degree of 1 or more of allyl polyethylene glycol ether.
Application ethylene glycol monoallyl ether as a comonomer of a fluoro-coating-fluorocarbon resin, can adjust the hardness of a coating film and impart hydrophilicity to the fluoro resin. With the development of fluorine coating, ethylene glycol monoallyl ether as a reactive diluent has been widely used.
