Ammonium polysulfide
Chemical formula (NH4)2Sx. Ammonium polysulfide exists only in solution. Yellow, turning red with the increase of x value, with the smell of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Unstable, long-term exposure to the air to decompose and precipitate sulfur. Sulfur is precipitated in case of acid and toxic hydrogen sulfide gas is released. Hydrogen sulfide is injected into 28% ammonia water to obtain ammonium sulfide solution, and then dissolved into excess sulfur. Used as insecticide and analytical reagent.
Chemical formula (NH4)2S5 of ammonium pentasulfide. Molecular weight 196.40. Yellow to orange-yellow prismatic crystals. Melting point 115 ℃ (decomposition). It is easy to decompose into NH3, H2S and S. Easily soluble in water, dissolved in water and immediately decomposed to precipitate sulfur, soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether, carbon disulfide, soluble in ammonia. It melts at 95°C in a closed tube and becomes a red liquid. Unstable in acidic solution, H2S is released by acid decomposition, and sulfur and ammonium salt are precipitated. Preparation method: It is prepared by reacting ammonia with hydrogen sulfide and sulfur, and dissolving elemental sulfur in ammonium sulfide solution. Purpose: Used as a reagent commonly used in analytical chemistry.
