Dimethylbis(cyclopentadienyl)silyl]zirconium dichloride (abbreviated as Cp2ZrCl2) is an organometallic compound with the chemical formula (ZrCl2Cp2). It is a solid with a white to yellow color.
The main use of this compound is as a catalyst in organic synthesis, showing high activity and selectivity in homogeneous catalytic reactions. It can be used to synthesize a variety of organic compounds, including polymers, olefin polymerization, carbene compounds and cyclopentadienyl metal compounds. In addition, Cp2ZrCl2 can also be used as hybrid materials or as metal organic precursors for certain chemical reactions.
A common method of preparing Cp2ZrCl2 is obtained by reacting cyclopentadienyl lithium with dimethylsilylzirconium chloride.
