Overview | Decalin is also known as decalin. There are two isomers, cis and trans. Colorless liquid with aromatic smell. Ordinary products are a mixture of two isomers. Insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone and benzene. The cis-isomer of cis-decalin can be isomerized to trans under the catalysis of aluminum trichloride and stirred at room temperature for 22 hours. It is obtained from the hydrogenation of naphthalene in the presence of a catalyst (nickel or platinum) for a long time. Used as a standard substance and solvent for chromatographic analysis, can be mixed with ethanol and benzene, used as a fuel for internal combustion engines, and can also be used for leather shoe polish and plate wax. Decalin-D18 is an isotope substituent of decalin, which can be used to prepare deuterated compounds. |
Preparation | Decalin-D18 is prepared as follows: With the deuterium gas inlet completely closed, 2% Pd in the activated carbon is added. 16g of cis-decalin was added at 1650°C, the thermometer assembly was inserted into the cell, and the condenser was connected to the condenser arm and equipped with an outlet pipe for discharging deuterium gas. The deuterium gas is then bubbled through the reaction cell at a rate of 40cc/min. Lower the battery pack into the constant temperature oil bath and keep it at 1900C. The sample is taken out regularly for analysis by removing the cells from the water bath, turning off the deuterium flow, and then extracting the sample through the thermometer port (with a syringe). Then start the system again as described above. 13.6g(75%) of decalin-D18 obtained after exchange for 496 hours were measured as 99% trans and 8% cis decalin-D18 by nuclear magnetic resonance. Similarly, decalin-D18(99 atom% D), cis decalin D18(8%) and trans decalin-D18(92%), were obtained after about 500 hours starting from decalin. |
