O-Trimethylsiloxy-N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)amine - Introduction
Also known as HMDS(Hexamethyldisilazane), it is an organosilicon compound. The following is an introduction to its nature, use, preparation and safety information:
Nature:
HMDS is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. Its chemical formula is C6H19NSi2 and its relative molecular mass is 161.4g/mol. It has low surface tension, low viscosity and high volatility.
Use:
HMDS is widely used in chemical synthesis and materials science. The main uses are as follows:
1. As an organosilicon reagent, it is used to introduce methyl Silicon groups in organic chemical synthesis.
2. As a surface treatment agent, it can be used to improve the wettability and adhesion of the surface of the material.
3. Used as a polymer additive to improve the heat resistance, weather resistance and mechanical properties of the polymer.
4. In the semiconductor industry, as a stripping agent and corrosion inhibitor.
Method:
The preparation of HMDS can be carried out by the following reactions:
(CH3)3SiNH2 (CH3)3SiCl → (CH3)3SiNSi(CH3)3 HCl
Safety Information:
HMDS is irritating, and the following safety precautions should be paid attention to when using HMDS:
1. Do not inhale, chew or swallow, avoid contact with skin and eyes.
2. Wear protective gloves, glasses and masks when using.
3. Use in a well-ventilated place, away from fire sources, and avoid inhaling its vapor.
4. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. In case of discomfort, seek medical help as soon as possible.
