Introduction | Bis (trimethylsilyl) potassium amino, usually abbreviated as KHMDS, is a strong non-nucleophilic base, pKa is about 26 (Compared with lithium diisopropylamide, it is at 36). In the solid state, the unsolvated compound is a dimer, in which two potassium and two nitrogen atoms form a square. The compound is soluble in hydrocarbon solvents and has poor electrical conductivity in solution and melt. This is attributed to very strong ion pairing. |
preparation | add 150g of anhydrous toluene and 19.5g(0.5mol) of metallic potassium to a 1000ml three-neck bottle, protect by argon gas, raise the temperature to 55 ℃, and add styrene/hexamethyldisilazane (65g/161g) dropwise; 0.625mol/1mol) mixture, and add dropwise in about 30 minutes. Keep the temperature for 2 hours until the metal potassium is completely dissolved, and the temperature is cooled to room temperature to obtain bis (trimethylsilyl) potassium amino (KHMDS) reaction solution. |
Uses | Pharmaceutical intermediates, mainly used for the production of synthetic cephalosporin antibiotics Non-nucleophilic strong bases. |
