Method:

(1) First, 2,6-dihydroxy-4-methoxypyridine is placed in a saturated cuprous bromide (CuBr2) acetic acid solution, and the reaction is stirred at room temperature for a period of time.
(2) Then, anhydrous cuprous chloride (CuCl2) was added to continue the stirring reaction.
(3) Finally, the mixture was filtered and cooled, and the resulting solid was collected as 5,12-dimethoxyrubicene.
