Application | Methyl 3-chloro-4-hydroxybenzoate is an organic intermediate, which can be obtained by one-step esterification of 3-chloro-4-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is an organic synthesis intermediate and a pharmaceutical intermediate, which can be used in laboratory research and development processes and chemical production processes. |
Preparation | Sulfuric acid (3mL, 56.3mmol) was added to a solution of 3-chloro-4-hydroxy-benzoic acid (1.0g,5.8mmol) in methanol (30mL), and the mixture was stirred at 60°C for 12 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and methanol was removed in a vacuum. The residue was partitioned between saturated K2CO3 solution and ethyl acetate (3 × 30mL), dried, filtered, and concentrated in vacuum to give a white solid methyl 3-chloro-4-hydroxybenzoate (0.9g,83%). ESI-MS m/z theoretical value: 186.5, measured value: 187.5(M +1)+; Retention time: 1.17 minutes (running for 3 minutes). |
