Physical and Chemical Properties | Sodium metaborate is an intermediate in the production of borax, the chemical formula nabo2. Molecular weight 65.80. Colorless hexagonal prismatic crystals. The melting point is 966 ℃, the boiling point is 1434 ℃, and the relative density is 2.464. Soluble in water, glycerol, difficult to dissolve in ethanol, insoluble in acid. The aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. Sodium metaborate tetrahydrate is colorless or white crystal, melting point 57 ℃, soluble in water, the solution is strong alkaline, insoluble in ethanol, heated to 120 ℃ will lose 1 molecule of crystal water. Preparation Method: The boron magnesium ore stone by calcination after grinding, with 30% caustic soda solution heating decomposition, and then filtered, concentrated, cooled, crystallized and obtained.
