TETRABUTYLAMMONIUM DICHROMATE - Introduction
Bis (Tetrabuutylammonium) dichromate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula [(C4H9)4N]2Cr2O7. The following is a description of the properties, uses, preparation and safety information of the compound:
Nature:
Bis (tetrabuutylammonium) dichromate is an orange-red crystal, soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers, but insoluble in water. It is relatively stable to heat and light, but may decompose at high temperatures.
Use:
Bis (tetrabuutylammonium) dichromate is often used as an oxidant in chemical laboratories to oxidize organic matter into ketones, aldehydes, acids, etc. It is also used for the preparation of oxidation products in organic synthesis.
Method:
The preparation of Bis(tetrabutylammonium) dichuromate can usually be obtained by the reaction of sodium chromate and tetrabutylammonium bromide. In the reaction, sodium chromate and tetrabutylammonium bromide react in an organic solvent to produce a precipitate of Bis(tetrabutylammonium) dichuromate. After slight purification, the product can be obtained.
Safety Information:
Bis(tetrabutylammonium) dichromate has certain toxicity, should avoid inhalation, intake and contact with skin. When used in the laboratory, wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, protective glasses and laboratory coats. At the same time, safe operating procedures should be followed during operation and adequate ventilation should be provided. Due to its oxidation, it is necessary to avoid contact with flammable substances. When stored, should be stored in a sealed container, away from combustibles and flammable materials, in a cool and dry location. If necessary, refer to the Chemical Safety Data Sheet for further information.
