introduction | methyl mercaptoacetate is a colorless and transparent oily liquid, soluble in water and smelling of allicin. It is an important intermediate for synthetic medicine, pesticide, food flavor and tobacco flavor, and can be used as organotin heat stabilizer and molecular weight regulator of polymer. Polymethyl mercaptoacetate can also be used as low-temperature curing agent for epoxy resin, optical lens and manufacturing adhesive. At present, the production and synthesis method of methyl mercaptoacetate mainly uses thioglycolic acid and methanol as raw materials and sulfuric acid as catalyst. The process has many problems such as low yield, long reaction time and serious equipment corrosion. |
application | methyl mercaptoacetate, also known as methyl thioglycolate, methyl hydrothioacetate, etc., is an important intermediate in the synthesis of pesticides, medicines, tobacco flavors and food flavors. |
preparation | taking thioglycolic acid and methanol as starting materials, adding 131.4Kg(1000mol) of thioglycolic acid with purity%, 134.7Kg(4000mol) of methanol with purity 95.0% and 1.60Kg of methanol solution with activator mass concentration of 20% into a reaction device with electric stirrer, condenser and thermometer, reflux stirring reaction at 45 ℃ for 4 hours, stop stirring, then add activator mass concentration of 20% p-toluenesulfonic acid methanol solution 1.06Kg, continue to reflux stirring reaction at 55 ℃ for 4 hours, with a liquid separation device to separate the ester layer (lower layer), the ester layer is distilled under reduced pressure, and the former fraction, methyl mercaptoacetate and bottom are separated. The former fraction is about 10Kg, and after standing, 2Kg of water and 8Kg of crude methyl mercaptoacetate (content 90%) can be separated. Methyl mercaptoacetate is 85Kg (content 98.5%), and the residual bottom amount is about 10Kg, of which the content of methyl mercaptoacetate is 10.0%, the content of unreacted mercaptoacetic acid is 80.0%, and the bottom residue can continue the next esterification reaction. The total average yield can reach 85% after acid recovery from the bottom residue. |
use | pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediates. Mainly used as an intermediate of pharmaceutical pesticides, methyl mercaptoacetate is the raw material of the herbicide thiensulfuron. |
production method | the preparation method is to add mercaptoacetic acid and methanol in the reaction kettle, stir, dropwise add a small amount of concentrated sulfuric acid as catalyst, finish dropping, reflux reaction for 12 hours, after the reaction, add water to wash until neutral, and divide water to obtain the finished product.
