Use acetophenone to nitrate with concentrated nitric acid to generate m-nitroacetophenone, and then reduce to m-aminoacetophenone, and then use sodium nitrite, sulfuric acid diazotization and hydrolysis to obtain m-hydroxyacetophenone. The latter is acylated with benzoyl chloride and brominated with bromine to prepare the product.
