In vitro study | Fluorometholone Acetate is a synthetic corticosteroid used to treat steroid-responsive eye inflammation. |
In vivo study | Hourly local administration of the suspended drug reduced polymorphonuclear leukocyte invasion of the corneal stroma by an average of 46.8%. In the cornea, fluorometholone acetate appears to have a better efficacy than fluorometholone alcohol in reducing the number of white blood cells that invade the tissue causing the inflammatory response. Animal toxicological studies of fluorometholone, including acute intraperitoneal LD50s in rats and mice, subacute oral toxicity in dogs and rats, and subacute local ocular toxicity in rabbits, have demonstrated the safety of this drug for use in humans. |
