1,2-diphenylethanol - Introduction

1,2-diphenylethanol, chemical formula C6H5CH(OH)CH2C6H5, also known as 1,2-diphenylethanol. The following is a description of the properties, uses, preparation and safety information of this compound:

Nature:
-If solid, it is white crystal, soluble in most organic solvents.
-It has a sweet and aromatic smell.
-1,2-diphenylethanol has chirality, that is, it has two enantiomers, (S)-and (R)-1,2-diphenylethanol.

Use:
-1,2-diphenylethanol can be used as an important raw material in organic synthesis. It can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of diacetophenone, heterosuccinate and other organic compounds.
-Because of its chirality, it can also be used for the synthesis of chiral ligands and catalysts for enantioselective organic reactions.

Method:
-1,2-diphenylethanol can be synthesized by Grignard reaction. This reaction uses benzaldehyde and styrene as raw materials, and reacts under acidic conditions by heating to produce 1,2-diphenylethanol.
-In addition, the compound can also be obtained by other synthetic routes, such as through the reaction of Bromo -1,2-diphenylethane with potassium hydroxide.

Safety Information:
-1,2-diphenylethanol has no specific risk description. However, as an organic compound, it may have a potential risk of irritation and sensitization to the skin, eyes and respiratory system.
-Wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as laboratory gloves, goggles and protective masks during use.
