1. First, 4-methyl -2-fluoropyridine and formaldehyde are reacted to produce α-[4-methyl -2-pyridyl] methyl alcohol.
2. Then, α-[4-methyl -2-pyridyl] methyl alcohol is reacted with sulfonyl chloride to generate the corresponding α-[4-methyl -2-pyridyl] methanesulfonyl chloride compound.
3. Finally, the α-[4-methyl-2-pyridyl] methanesulfonyl chloride compound is reacted with phenol to produce 2-([(4-methyl-2-pyridyl) amino] methyl) phenol.
