3,3-difluorocyclobutane methyl formate is a colorless liquid with low volatility and flammability. It has a small density of about 1.25g/cm3, a boiling point of about 40-41°C, and a melting point of about -95°C.
Use:
3,3-difluorocyclobutanecarboxylic acid methyl ester is commonly used in the fluorination reaction in organic synthesis. It can be used as a fluorination reagent, e.g. for the fluorination of aldehydes/ketones, which can convert the aldehydes/ketones to the corresponding α,α-difluoroalcohols/ketones. In addition, it is also widely used in medicine, pesticides and coatings and other fields.
Preparation Method:
3,3-difluorocyclobutanecarboxylic acid methyl ester is usually prepared by reacting fluoroacetic acid and methanol. First, fluoroacetic acid and methanol are heated in a reaction vessel to react to produce methyl 3,3-difluorooxyethyl carboxylate. The product methyl 3,3-difluorooxyethyl formate is then converted to methyl 3,3-difluorocyclobutanecarboxylate by a dehydration reaction.
