Nature:
-Appearance: dark blue crystalline powder.
-Solubility: Soluble in water and ethanol, almost insoluble in ether and chloroform.
- pH: In aqueous solution, it is red when the pH value is low, and blue when the pH value is high.
Use:
-Biological dyes: Methylene Blue has strong Biological staining activity, which can be used to stain cells, bacteria and tissues, and is used in the fields of medicine and biology.
-Antibacterial agent: Methylene blue can inhibit Gram-positive bacteria and negative bacteria, widely used in the field of medicine.
-Redox indicator: Methylene blue can be used as a redox indicator in chemical analysis.
Preparation Method:
The preparation method of methylene blue is more complex, and the commonly used method is obtained by the reaction of p-nitroaniline and ethyl thioacetate.
