use | 2-bromo-5-hydroxymethylphenol is an organic synthesis intermediate and a pharmaceutical intermediate that can be used in laboratory research and development processes and chemical and pharmaceutical synthesis processes. |
preparation | DIBALH(100mL,1M toluene solution, 100mmol) was added to methylene chloride (360mL) suspension of methyl 4-bromo-3-hydroxybenzoate 70(6.97g,30.2mmol) at 0 ℃ in batches. Significant gas escape was observed. The resulting mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 2.75 hours. Thereafter, the reaction mixture was quenched by adding an aqueous solution of saturated sodium potassium tartrate (600mL) and an aqueous solution of saturated ammonium chloride (100mL). The resulting two-phase mixture was vigorously stirred for 2 hours and then extracted with dichloromethane (3 ×). The organic layer was dried with Na2SO4 and filtered to give 2-bromo-5-hydroxymethylphenol. |
