-Protect the hydroxyl functional group: It can react with the hydroxyl group to generate an esterification product, thereby protecting the hydroxyl functional group.
-Methylating reagent: It can methylate electrophilic groups for alkylation reactions in organic synthesis.

Method:
It can be obtained by reacting trimethylsilyl chloromethyl ether ((CH3) 3Sioch3) with chloroacetic acid.
