3,5-DTBC - Preparation
Drop to 2.75g(25mmol) of catechol in 7ml(5.5g,74mmol) of suspension with ice-cold tert-butanol 2.5ml of concentrated H2SO4, and stir the mixture at room temperature for 8 hours. Then a mixture of 25ml of water and 1.2ml of dioxane was added, the separated precipitate was filtered out, washed with water to a neutral pH, and dried in air to obtain 3, 5-di-tert-butylbenzene-1, 2-diol, which was recrystallized from hexane. Output 5.43g,98%. mp 100-101 ℃.
