3025-95-4 - Introduction
N-acetyl-β-alanine(N-acetyl-β-alanine) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C5H9NO3. It is a white crystalline solid, soluble in water and alcohol. N-acetyl-β-alanine has the properties of an amino acid, containing an acetyl functional group and a β-alanine functional group.
N-acetyl-β-alanine is commonly used as a food additive to increase the acidity and enhance the aroma of food. It can also be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate.
The preparation of N-acetyl-β-alanine is usually obtained by reacting β-alanine with acetic anhydride. First, β-alanine is reacted with acetic anhydride under acidic conditions to produce N-acetyl-β-alanine and acetic acid. The reaction mixture is then purified by crystallization to give the desired product.
Regarding the safety of N-acetyl-β-alanine, it is a relatively safe compound. However, long-term use of large doses may cause some adverse reactions. It should be used according to the appropriate dose, following relevant safety regulations.
