4-(2-pyriridyl) benzonitrile is a white crystalline solid, soluble in ethanol, chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide, insoluble in water. It has a strong fragrance and has a high ignition point and melting point.

4-(2-Pyridyl)benzonitrile is widely used in organic synthesis.
