(2) The chloropyridine is then reacted with formaldehyde under basic conditions to obtain a 2-chloro-6-methylpyridine-3-aldehyde compound.
(3) Finally, 2-chloro-6-methylpyridine-3-aldehyde is reduced to the corresponding alcohol by reduction reaction or acid catalysis.
