4-[(2-hydroxy-1-napthyl) azo] benzensulphonic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C16H13N3O4S. It is an orange-yellow to red granular solid, insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers and ketones.
This compound is commonly used in the dye industry and has good dyeing properties. It can be used as a colorant for certain organic materials, such as plastics, rubbers and fibers. In addition, it is also used as an indicator and pH indicator in some laboratory and medical applications.
The preparation of 4-[(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)azo] benzensulphonic acid is usually achieved through azo coupling reaction.
