| Use | Cholesterol in plasma and bile nuclei was determined by precipitation reaction. It is also used as a reagent for higher alcohols, nuclear phenols and thiophenols. |
| In vitro study | Digitonin, a detergent that increases cell permeability by binding to cholesterol molecules in the cell membrane, can increase cisplatin accumulation and reduce tumour growth in vitro. |
| In vivo study | In the liver parenchyma the concentrations are of the same magnitude. Measured with the 133 Xe-clearance technique, Digitonin does not alter the tumor blood flow. Digitonin enhances the tumor-growth retarding effect of CBDCA given intra-aterially at 5 mg/kg but not at 25 mg/kg. |

Digitonine - Introduction
It's hygroscopic. 1g dissolved in 57ml of absolute ethanol; 220ml 95% ethanol, almost insoluble in water, ether nuclear chloroform. caking at 225 ℃. It does not melt obviously at 235~240 ℃. Toxic. Alpha: -54 (c = 3, methanol)
