Florfenicol - Introduction
Florfenicol is a new type of animal-specific broad-spectrum antibacterial drug. Its mechanism of action is the same as chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol, that is, it binds to the 50s subunit of sensitive bacteria, inhibits the formation of bacterial 70s ribosomes, and inhibits acetyltransferase. Prevent the transfer of amino groups to the peptide chain, thereby inhibiting the extension of the peptide chain and interfering with bacterial protein synthesis. Structurally, florfenicol replaces the hydroxyl group on the propane chain in the structure of chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol with fluorine atoms, thereby preventing the aggressive acetylation of bacterial acetyltransferase at this position. Acetyltransferase is also related to the resistance of bacteria to chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol conducted by plasmids, so florfenicol will not produce resistance similar to chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol plasmid conduction, it is still sensitive to many chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol resistant strains.
