It is mainly used in laboratory research and development processes and chemical and pharmaceutical synthesis processes. |
| Preparation | N-tris (hydroxymethyl) methionine-2-hydroxypropanesulfonic acid is prepared as follows: 242.28 grams (2 moles) of tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane, A mixture of 500 ml of water and 196.5g (1 mol) of sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl sulfonate is put into a 1 liter 2-neck flask with a stirrer and condenser. Stir the mixture vigorously under reflux for 3 hours. After cooling to 25°C, the solution is passed through a cation exchange resin column in the form of Dowex50 and hydrogen to remove sodium cations and form free acids. The eluent from the column evaporates into heavy oil under vacuum. After dilution with alcohol, the product crystallizes from the solution, is filtered and washed with alcohol and dried. 160 grams of the white product N-tris (hydroxymethyl) methine-2-hydroxypropanesulfonic acid was obtained. |
