(5a,17)-N-(1,1-Dimethylethyl-d9)-3-oxo-4-azaandrost-1-ene-17-carboxamide - Introduction
Finasteride-d9(Finasteride-d9) is an isotopically labeled compound of finasteride in which the hydrogen atoms are replaced by deuterium (D). Finasteride is a 5α-reductase inhibitor commonly used to treat male pattern alopecia (Baldness) and prostatic hyperplasia (benign prostatic hyperplasia).
Finasteride-d9 has the same mechanism of action as finasteride. It blocks the process of conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone by inhibiting 5α-reductase. In this way, the levels of dihydrotestosterone in the hair follicles and prostate tissue are reduced, thereby slowing hair loss and relieving the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The preparation of Finasteride-d9 is generally based on isotopically labeled starting materials. In this case, deuterium is substituted for a hydrogen atom in the finasteride structure. The deuteration reaction can be carried out in a number of ways, for example using sodium deuteride (D20) or a deuterated metal catalyst.
Regarding the safety information of the Finasteride-d9, it should be noted that it is necessary to take it according to the doctor's instructions and dosage when using it. Patients may experience side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and breast enlargement. If any discomfort occurs, the doctor should be informed immediately. Pregnant and lactating women should avoid contact with Finasteride-d9 because of its possible effects on the fetus and baby. During use, regular medical examinations and monitoring are important. For individuals with an individual allergy to finasteride, Finasteride-d9 should also be avoided.
