In vitro study | In androgen receptor-positive bladder cancer cells UMUC3 and TCC-SUP, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) increases the expression of EGFR and ERBB2 at the mRNA and protein levels. In AR-positive cells, DHT also upregulated the phosphorylation level of EGFR and its downstream proteins AKT(pAKT) and ERK1/2(pERK). |
In vivo study | DHT reduced muscle atrophy symptoms and increased body weight in SOD1-G93A mice. DHT treatment increased insulin-like growth factor -1 expression in muscle, exerting its muscular trophic and neurotrophic effects through retrograde axoplasmic transport. Its treatment also slows the denervation at the neuromuscular junction and reduces the loss of axons and motor neurons. The DHT-treated SOD1-G93A mice had improved motor behavior and a longer life span. |
