overview | 1-methylcyclopropene (1-methylcyclopropene, 1-MCP) is a derivative of cyclopropene. at room temperature, its properties are gas, it is a small cyclic olefin, and its properties are very active. 1-Methylcyclopropene is a synthetic plant growth regulator and has been widely used in commerce. |
Effect | The discovery of the inhibitory effect of 1-MCP on ethylene comes from the laboratory Blankenship Edward Sisler and Sylvia of North Carolina State University, who jointly hold corresponding patents. Cyclopropene is probably the photoactivated product of DACP's inhibition of ethylene. In the 1990s, Sisler found that 1-MCP is a practical cyclopropene derivative because it is less volatile than cyclopropene itself. 3-MCP is also an effective inhibitor, but it requires a higher concentration compared with 1-MCP to play a role. |
