1-Methylpyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione - Introduction
1-methylbarbituric acid(1-methylbarbituric acid) is also known as the alkyl derivative of barbituric acid, with the chemical formula C5H6N2O3.
1-methylbarbituric acid is a colorless, crystalline solid that is soluble in water and other polar solvents. It has several important chemical properties. Due to the presence of two keto-oxy groups, keto-aldehyde tautomerism can proceed. Under alkaline conditions, it can occur negative ionization of basic oxygen atoms, and the salts formed are called barbiturates.
1-methylbarbituric acid has sedative and hypnotic effects and has been widely used in the medical field. However, due to its greater toxicity, its use has gradually decreased. At present, it is mainly used in biochemical experiments as the synthesis and research of metabolites.
The preparation of 1-methylbarbituric acid can be achieved by the reaction of 1,4-dimethylmethoxybarbituric acid with ureide or amide. This process undergoes debromination, keto-aldehyde isomerization, and then acid hydrolysis to obtain 1-methylbarbituric acid.
Regarding the safety of 1-methylbarbituric acid, it has certain toxicity and needs to be handled carefully. Appropriate laboratory safety measures should be taken during operation, such as wearing protective glasses and gloves, and maintaining a well-ventilated environment. At the same time, it should avoid contact with the skin, inhalation or ingestion, so as to avoid danger. In case of any accident, professionals should be called for immediately.
