Physical and chemical properties | Dysprosium chloride is the chloride of dysprosium, the chemical formula is DyCl3. It is a white to yellow solid that rapidly absorbs water in humid air to form hexahydrate (DyCl3 · 6H2O). Heating of hexahydrate will produce partial hydrolysis to form oxychloride (DyOCl). |
application | dysprosium chloride can be used to prepare other dysprosium salts. Using tungsten cathode electrolysis to DyCl3-LiCl-KCl the co-melt system, metal dysprosium can be obtained. This reaction will pass through Dy2. |
Preparation | DyCl3 is usually prepared by the "ammonium chloride method". The selection material can be dysprosium oxide, chloride, oxychloride or dysprosium chloride hexahydrate.
