Preparation Method:
2-Methyl -5-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid can be synthesized by the following steps:
1. Acylation of 2-methylbenzaldehyde with trifluoroformic acid in an appropriate solvent to generate 2-methyl -5-(trifluoromethyl) benzaldehyde.
2. Then 2-methyl -5-(trifluoromethyl) benzaldehyde is reacted with alcohol under basic conditions to generate 2-methyl -5-(trifluoromethyl) benzoic acid.
