133-99-3 - Introduction

D( )-cellobiose is an optically active carbohydrate compound, also known as sucrose. Its chemical name is D-glucose-α-glucose and its chemical formula is C12H22O11. D (+)-cellobiose is a white crystalline solid with a sweet taste. It has good solubility in water.

D( )-cellobiose is widely used as a sweetener in the food industry, mainly for flavoring and saccharifying foods. It can also be used as an additive in the preparation of other saccharides, biomedicine and cosmetics.

There are two main methods for preparing D( )-cellobiose. One is extracted from sugar cane and sugar beet, after saccharification, purification and crystallization steps to obtain higher purity products. The other is through enzymatic synthesis, the substrate D-glucose through the action of the enzyme, so that it reacts to generate D( )-cellobiose.

D( )-cellobiose is a natural product. Generally speaking, it is safe and has no toxic side effects on most humans. However, excessive intake of D (+)-cellobiose may cause dyspepsia such as bloating, diarrhea, and stomach pain. For people with diabetes, the intake of D (+)-cellobiose requires caution because it increases blood sugar levels. Therefore, when using D( )-cellobiose, you need to use it in moderation and follow relevant safety recommendations.
