14636-95-4 - Introduction
PROPYLMALONIC ACID (butylmalonic acid) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C7H12O4. It is a colorless solid and is hygroscopic. The following is a description of the nature, use, method and safety information of PROPYLMALONIC ACID:
Nature:
-Appearance: Colorless solid
-Molecular weight: 160.17g/mol
-Solubility: can be dissolved in water
-Melting point: about 120-123°C
-Stability: relatively stable at room temperature, but will decompose and produce harmful gases under heating and higher temperatures
Use:
-Industrial applications: PROPYLMALONIC ACID is mainly used in the field of organic synthesis, can be used as intermediates or reactants to participate in a variety of chemical reactions, such as synthetic drugs, dyes, colloids and polymers.
-Laboratory applications: PROPYLMALONIC ACID can be used in organic synthesis laboratories for the synthesis of other compounds or for organic chemistry experiments.
Preparation Method:
- PROPYLMALONIC ACID can be prepared:
1. malonic acid reacts with bromoethane to obtain bromopropane, and then reacts with methyl acetone to generate propyl propanedione. Finally, the propylpropanedione is hydrolyzed with acid or base to give the PROPYLMALONIC ACID.
2. methyl propane diketone is hydrated to produce methyl ethyl malonic acid, and then PROPYLMALONIC ACID is produced by reduction and hydrogen catalytic reaction.
Safety Information:
- PROPYLMALONIC ACID should be handled in accordance with general laboratory safety practices, including wearing protective glasses, gloves and laboratory coats.
- PROPYLMALONIC ACID may cause irritation to skin and eyes, direct contact should be avoided.
-During handling and storage, ACID-PROPYLMALONIC dust should be avoided to avoid inhalation to avoid harm to the respiratory system.
-When dealing with PROPYLMALONIC ACID, ensure that it is operated in a well-ventilated area to prevent the accumulation of toxic gases.
