overview | citrate (Poncirin) is one of the important components of Chinese traditional Chinese medicine citrate, belonging to flavonoids, also called isoglycyrrhizin. Studies have confirmed that it has a wide range of pharmacological activities such as anti-tumor, anti-virus, anti-free radicals, relaxation of blood vessels, and inhibition of lipid peroxidation. Structural analysis We found that citrarin has the structural characteristics of small molecule inhibitors of neovascularization:(1) there are two or more aromatic groups;(2) there are multiple receptors or ligands that can form hydrogen bonds on aromatic groups;(3) linker bonds are connected between aromatic groups. Therefore, it has the effect of inhibiting tumor angiogenesis to achieve anti-tumor effect. |

Mechanism of inhibiting tumor angiogenesis | Citrin has the effect of preferentially inhibiting the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells. At a lower non-apoptotic dose, it can inhibit the migration and adhesion of HUVEC. This difference is cytotoxic and can interfere with the function of endothelial cells, meet the criteria for screening anti-angiogenic drugs in modern medicine. The inhibitory effect of citrate on angiogenesis was further verified in chick chorioallantoic membrane experiment. The experimental results showed that the compound had a good inhibitory effect on CAM angiogenesis. Preliminary mechanism studies have found that citrate can inhibit the expression of VEGF mRNA in tumor cells.
