Application | Tetraisopropyl methylene diphosphate is an organic intermediate that can be prepared by one-step reaction of diisopropyl phosphite and carbon disulfide. It is reported that tetramethylene diphosphate can be used to prepare high flame retardant cable sheavers. |
Preparation | Diisopropyl phosphite (4mL,24mmol) was added dropwise to a suspension of NaH(28.8mmol,1.2 equivalents) in dry THF(25mL) under nitrogen at -5°C to 0°C. Then, the mixture was stirred at 20°C for 3h, and carbon disulfide (9.6mmol,0.4 equivalent) was added dropwise. The color of the reaction mixture changed to brown. Stirring continued for 3 hours, then the mixture was poured into NH4Cl saturated solution and extracted with Et2O. The combined organic layer of (MgSO4) was dried, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure, and the product was purified by vacuum distillation (110-115°C, at 3.10-2 mbar) to obtain the compound tetramethylene diphosphate Tetraisopropyl ester, which is a light yellow oil (52%). |
