Dibenzoic thioanhydride (biphenyl dithiophthalic anhydride) is an organic sulfur compound with the chemical formula C14H8O2S.
Nature:
Dibenzoic thioanhydride is a white crystalline solid with a pungent odor. Its melting point is about 150-153°C. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, benzene and dichloromethane. The compound can ignite, producing irritating sulfide fumes.
Use:
dibenzic thioanhydride is mainly used in organic synthesis reactions as a source of sulfur. It can be used in the synthesis of organic compounds containing sulfuryl groups, such as sulfamides and sulfuryl ethers. In addition, it can also be used as a catalyst and an intermediate.
Method:
Dibenzoic thioanhydride can be obtained by the reaction of sodium dibenzoylpersulfate and sodium sulfide at high temperature. Specifically, sodium dibenzoylpersulfate is first reacted with sodium sulfide to obtain an intermediate, which is then subjected to an acid esterification reaction to produce a final product.
