| Preparation | 2-propyl -4, 5-imidazole dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester is prepared as follows: thionyl chloride (15g) is added to 2-Propyl-1H-imidazol-4, 5-dicarboxylic acid (10g) methanol (30 ml) mixture and heated and refluxed, then stirred until the reaction is complete. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0-5°C and quenched with water. The reaction mixture was alkalized with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and stirred for 15 minutes. The solids were filtered, washed with water and dried to obtain the title compound 2-propyl-4, 5-imidazoledicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester. |
