Application | 2-bromo-phenylethanol is an alcoholic organic substance, which can be used as a pharmaceutical synthesis intermediate. |
preparation | 2-bromophenylethanol was prepared as follows: 2-bromophenylacetic acid (34.7g,161mmol) dissolve in THF (200ml) and cool to 0 °c. Borane-dimethyl sulfide (1.5 EQ, 24ml,10M solution) was added slowly. After the gas was no longer volatilized, the ice bath was removed and the mixture was stirred at 25 °c overnight. The mixture was then placed in an ice bath and hydrochloric acid (2N,150ml) was carefully added. Water (200ml) was added and the mixture was stirred for 30min and then extracted with diethyl ether (250ml). The organic phase was washed with water (2 x 150ml), saturated NaHCO3 and brine. Drying over anhydrous Na2SO4 followed by filtration and removal of the solvent under reduced pressure gave the title compound 2-bromophenylethanol. Single peak by HPLC (retention time of 8.23min);NMR (7.55 MHz,CDCl3) 7.26, 7.09, 3.88, 3.03, 1.53; IR (film) 3350, 1471, 1439, 1040cm-1; High resolution MS, calculated 199.9837, found 199.9873. |
